Truly depicted as "Gods
own country" Kerala enjoys a unique place in the minds of every
Indian and every foreign tourist who are lucky to visit us. Lush
green hills and flowing rivers and the diversity of people
practicing different religion and belief, adds to its charm. This is
the land of Ayurveda, a system medicine, time tested and perfected
which exhorts the people to live in harmony with nature. Research
scholars are digging into the past, rediscovering the glory and
effectiveness of its system where side effects are minimized and the
cost of investigation and treatment reduced to combat new diseases
such as Cancer and AIDS to name a few.
Geographically Trichur enjoys the center place of Kerala, better
known as the cultural capital of Kerala. Here the south meets the
north, balancing in harmony the diverse cultural and religious
practices. The Land of Kathakali, Acharyas of Ayurveda, Kalamandalam
which gave birth of innumerable artists in dance, drama and music -
Trichur is the place of the festival of festivals, the pooram - the
yearly extravaganza of art, colour, light and sound, architectured
by the mighty ruler of erstwhile Cochin state, his Higheness Sakthan
Thampuran.
Trichur is blessed with a conglomeration of
educational institutions of every discipline, namely Medicine,
Ventenary Science, Agriculture, engineering, law, academies of
literature, drama, music, dance, and art, management science and
good number of other excellent educational centers for both men and
women. Trichur has a Medical College and a district Hospital which
Tops the Lists of eight major Hospitals, innumerable clinics,
diagnostic centers and a Cancer Research Centre. But we did not have
super Speciality Hospital in this part of our state which could
cater to the needs of seriously ill or injured patients who needed
critical care-especially in the field of heart diseases and Trauma
cases. Hitherto all such patients who required such advanced
treatment had to go to other Metropolitan cities like Madras,
Mumbai, Delhi and in some cases to U.S.A or U.K. Trichur Heart
Hospital Ltd - was intended to fill this vaccum and to make
available such expensive treatment at an affordable rate to needy in
distress.
History
 Way
back in 1978 an elite group of philanthropists and businessman met
to discuss the setting up of a hospital specializing in cardiac
cases. As a prelude, they formed a society namely the Trichur Heart
Foundation with Dr.P.M.Varkey, FRCP as its Chairman . The society
subsequently sponsored the Trichur Heart Hospital Ltd, the first
investor owned, multi disciplinary Super Speciality High Tech
Corporate Hospital with Dr. Varkey as its President and Chief
Promoter. The project was conceived with an idea of establishing an
institution of international standards to provide excellence in
treatment, nursing care, service and cleanliness.
The
Company was floated in 1985 and the foundation stone was laid by his
Holiness Pope John Paul on 7th Feb. 1986. Visualized to house 500
beds and other supporting facilities the construction was started in
1988. The complexity and the magnitude of financial out lay
necessitated the phasing of the project. Central Government
Financial Institutions like ICICI, IDB, IFCI participated in the
project by contributing 75% of the Project Estimation and the rest
was met by the people of Trichur. On 28/10/1992 H.E. Sankar Dayal
Sharma, former president of India inaugurated the first phase in a
grand ceremony. The management of the hospital was entrusted to an
eleven member board of Directors drawn from different walks of life
but at the same time efficient and conversant with the
administration. At the end of the phase 1, we were the first
investor owned multi super Speciality Hospital in Kerala.
Phase
2 Vision 2000
 The
next phase comprises of an additional construction of six more
floors to accommodate 400 more beds as planned. The new Floors will
house a nursing school, nurses quarters, resident doctor's quarters
and research wing. We plan to provide one more lift for speedy
access to the additional floors |
